Viking warrior from Lewis on horse
In 1831, on the banks of the Scottish island of Lewis, 78 chess pieces.
Most of the originals are carved from walrus ivory and presumably come from Trondheim (Norway), dated 1150-1200 nd.
Most of the figures can now be admired in the British Museum in London, the others are in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
A warrior sits on a small horse (probably Viking or Icelandic pony) on his right hand he carries a spear and on the left a shield.
The figure is a replica that was modeled on the original.
Made and cast from polyresin (artificial stone).
