Order number: 67.058Chalice Tree of Life / World Ash Yggdrasil
Mimameid or Mimameidr, Old Norse Mímameiðr, is the world tree Yggdrasil in Nordic mythology.
The Norns are the women of fate. They live at the Urd Well under the world ash tree Yggdrasil (Irminsul) and determine the fate of people. Their names are Urd, Versandi and Skuld.
The Irminsul or Yggdrasil is the world axis and the midnight mountain in Ultima Thule at the same time. As a tree of life, it is rooted in the earth and spreads its branches towards the sky. In its shortened state it is the column capital of ancient temples. The left spiral is the path from the spring equinox to the summer solstice, the right from the autumn equinox to the winter solstice. The three angles are Ingo, Irmin and Isk, the three tribal gods of the main peoples. They are sons of Mannus, the connector between gods and humans. Mannus stands for man = spirit. The three lower angles are the three Norns at the Urdbrunnen under the roots. The Irminsul stood at many outstanding sanctuaries and was carried by the wandering tribes, the Atlantic North Sea peoples of the Haunebu, to the Orient, where it inspired the Persians and Egyptians.
