The dwarves in Nordic mythology - Wieland the blacksmith among the dwarves
Wieland learned blacksmithing in the "Ballofa" mountain. He learned the craft from two dwarfs and became a master blacksmith. When the dwarves tried to kill Wieland, he killed them and escaped. Wieland hollowed out a tree trunk, put his tools and and certain metals in it and drove this dugout back to his home in Denmark. A window worked into the tree trunk allowed a clear view of the sea. (from the Thidreks saga).
