Environment and waste disposal

Old battery disposal

In connection with the sale of batteries or rechargeable batteries, or devices that are operated with batteries or rechargeable batteries, we as a retailer are obliged under the Battery Act to inform you about the relevant regulations and obligations:

Used batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. Consumers are legally obligated to take batteries to a suitable collection point at a retailer or municipal collection center. Disposal is free of charge. You can also return your used batteries to us. In any case, the return shipment of batteries/rechargeable batteries to us must be sufficiently prepaid.

Used batteries may contain pollutants or heavy metals that can harm the environment and human health. Batteries also contain valuable raw materials that can be recycled.

The trash can symbol means: Batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be put in household waste.

The symbols under the garbage cans stand for:

Cd: Battery contains cadmium
Hg: Battery contains mercury

You also have the option of reading this information again in the accompanying documents of the goods delivery or in the operating instructions of the respective device manufacturer.

Electrical and electronic equipment

Separate collection of old devices

Electrical and electronic equipment that has become waste is referred to as waste equipment. Owners of waste equipment are required to dispose of it separately from unsorted municipal waste. Waste equipment, in particular, does not belong in household waste, but rather in special collection and return systems.

Batteries and rechargeable batteries

Owners of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) must, as a rule, remove any batteries and accumulators that are not enclosed within the WEEE before handing it over to a collection point. This does not apply if the WEEE is handed over to public waste disposal authorities and separated there from other WEEE for the purpose of preparing it for reuse.

Options for returning old devices

Owners of old electrical and electronic equipment from private households can dispose of it at the collection points of public waste management authorities or at the take-back points set up by manufacturers or distributors in accordance with the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG). An online directory of collection and take-back points can be found here: https://www.ear-system.de/ear-verzeichnis/sammel-und-ruecknahmestellen.jsf

Privacy Notice

Old devices often contain sensitive personal data. This is especially true for information and communication technology devices such as computers and smartphones. For your own protection, please note that each end user is responsible for deleting the data on the old devices to be disposed of.

Meaning of the symbol "crossed-out trash can"

The symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin, which is regularly depicted on electrical and electronic equipment, indicates that the respective device must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste at the end of its service life.
