Pendant of the World Tree Yggdrasil, Tree of Life, 925 silver
The Irminsul, or Yggdrasil, is both the world axis and the midnight mountain in Ultima Thule. As the Tree of Life, it is rooted in the earth and spreads its branches towards the heavens. In its shortened form, it serves as the capital of ancient temple columns. The left spiral represents the path from the vernal equinox to the summer solstice, the right from the autumnal equinox to the winter solstice. The three angles are Ingo, Irmin, and Isk, the three tribal deities of the major peoples. They are sons of Mannus, the link between gods and humans. Mannus means "man" or "spirit." The three lower angles represent the three Norns at the Well of Urd beneath the roots. The Irminsul stood at many prominent sanctuaries and was carried by the migrating tribes, the Haunebu, the North Sea peoples of the Atlantic, as far as the Orient, where it inspired the Persians and Egyptians.
