Kiwi liqueur "Freyr's Blessing", 18% vol., 0.5 ltr. bottle
Freyr, the god of love and fertility, gave this liqueur his name.
Freyr is the son of the sea god Njörd and was initially married to his sister Freya according to Vanir custom. However, after the Vanir War, he falls hopelessly in love with the giantess Gerda and woos her. His servant Skirnir helps Freyr woo Gerda, but Gerda rejects his advances every time. Only when Skirnir threatens Gerda with the curse of eternal ugliness does she agree to marry Freyr. As a reward, Skirnir receives Freyr's magic sword. At Ragnarök, however, Freyr lacks the sword in his battle against the fire giant Surtr. Instead, it is recounted how Freyr fights with his stag antlers.
Freyr is the lord of Lichtalfheim. His mount is the golden boar Gullinborsti, created by the dwarves, which was faster than any horse. Freyr also had the ship Skidbladni, likewise forged by the dwarves. The ship was so large that all the Aesir, along with their weapons, could fit inside. Wherever the ship sailed, it always had a headwind. The ship could also be folded up so small that it fit into a pocket.
