Kurt Pastenaci - The Great Germanic Leaders / Book
With few exceptions, the great Germanic rulers have received far too little attention. While for a long time our understanding of the Germanic peoples was shaped by the accounts of Roman historians, since the 19th century the findings of linguists and archaeologists have broadened our knowledge. In this study, first published in 1939, the historian Kurt Pastenaci clearly demonstrates what we Germans owe to our Germanic ancestors: liberation from Roman rule to the Cheruscan Arminius, possession of southern Germany to the Suebi, the securing of the Danube to the Marcomanni, and the preservation of Germanic influence in eastern Germany, particularly in Silesia, to the Vandals. Thus, a period from prehistory and early history through the Migration Period to the Middle Ages unfolds, during which we Germans can look back on a continuous line of outstanding Germanic leaders.
