Thor (Old Norse: Þórr, Old Saxon: Thunaer, Old English: þunor, Old High German: Donar, Proto-Germanic: *þunaraz "thunder"), is the god of thunder in Norse mythology – he is the first son of the god Odin (Old Norse: Óðinn). His wife is Sif (Old Norse: Sif).
Thor, the strongest of all the Norse gods, was greatly revered. God of storms and lightning, Thor slew trolls and man-eating giants and ensured good harvests.
Odin and Jord's son was given two sons, Magni and Modi, by his wife, the giantess Jarnsaxa.
Thor reigns in Bilskinir, his palace in the realm of Trudheim, and he proudly carries his hammer Mjölnir. The "Thor's Hammer" was once forged by the dwarves Sindri and Brokk.
Thor derives his strength from his belt Megingjardar and his iron hand Jarngreipr.
Just as today, Thor's hammer was worn by pagan people for many centuries as protection against danger. Thor's hammer is THE symbol of pagan belief.
