Sun wheel wall relief, triskelion (three-legged symbol), fruitwood
Sun wheel wall relief Triskele, hand-carved from fruit wood.
The triskele, also known as the triskelion, is a triple spiral (three-legged) Celtic symbol in the form of three "running legs" or generally open spirals/scrolls arranged in an equilateral triangle.
In general, this symbol, for which historical models can be found in Newgrange, Ireland, for example, is associated with pagan triad symbolism.
It stands for the three sister goddesses: Banba, Fódla, and Ériu, who once ruled over Ireland. It symbolizes becoming, being, and passing away – the young girl, the mother, the crone.
It is an ancient sun symbol whose rays flow outward and ultimately always return to their center from which all energy originates, making it the quintessential spiral of life.
As an ancient druidic symbol of Ireland, presumably dating back to the Bronze Age or even earlier, it is the sun symbol of the Celtic and Nordic cultural region.
