Colias werdandi butterfly Norne Verdandi
The three Norns, or goddesses of fate, are named Urd (past), Verdandi (the present / that which is becoming) and Skuld (future / that which shall be).
Butterflies embody metamorphosis; in many cultures, they are symbols of death but also of resurrection. Butterflies are symbols of transformation, resurrection, rebirth, "apparent death," and immortality. Butterflies are also symbols of the soul, youthful beauty, change, and transience.
Verdandi: Anglo-Saxon: "weordh", Gothic: "wairth", Old Norse: "verdh" trace back to the root v-r-t and mean: to unroll, to emerge, to become.
The Colias werdandi butterfly lives in the wilderness, preferably in mountainous terrain in Arctic Scandinavia. Colias werdandi (Werdandi or Verdandi - becoming, unrolling).
The butterfly, like the three Norns, especially Verdandi / Werdandi, embodies past - present - future and rebirth through transformation and metamorphosis.
