This Viking helmet is handmade from iron based on an original from around 550 - 793 AD!
A similar original helmet was found at Gjermundbu in Norway and is now in the National Museum of Antiquities in Oslo. The helmet is part of a large grave find from the Vendel period (550 - 793 AD) in Norway. Our helmet fits head sizes up to 64 cm. This helmet has a material thickness of 2 mm and can withstand the strongest sword blows. It has an adjustable cowhide leather lining and a leather chin strap.
Around the helmet there is a large chainmail weave in the well-known "4 rings in one" pattern, corresponding to medieval chainmail shirts.
The total height of the helmet from the lower edge of the "nasal" to the spike tip is 32 cm and the inner helmet width (from ear to ear) is 21 cm. The helmet weighs approx. 2.78 kg including leather lining and aventail (chain protection). Suitable for re-enactment combat.
