Historical Background
A knarr (also knorr) refers to a Viking cargo sailing ship that was wider, shorter, and generally fuller than the well-known longships. Knarrs were very robust and seaworthy vessels, intended for trade and longer sea voyages.

The model resembles the knarr found near the village of Skuldelev in Denmark, which became known as Skuldelev I. The original was built in Norway between 1030 and 1050. Oak and spruce wood were primarily used as building materials. The ship was approximately 16.3 meters long and had a displacement of about 24 tons.
